Local Soccer Players Named To All-State Team

Esko-Carlton girls and Hermantown boys and girls soccer programs gained state recognition when players from both teams were named to the 2009 Class A All-State team at the Minnesota State High School League’s annual pre-tournament banquet on Sunday.


Amanda Bergstedt of Esko-Carlton and Hermantown’s Hanna Buchite both received first team all-state honors.


On the boys side, Hermantown Hawks defender Andrew Motley and midfielder Willis Kantonen received first team honors, while
thier teammate, senior
goalkeeper Andrew Samberg, was named All-State Honorable Mention. The three will be able to display their abilities when they help their Hawks teammates take on Mankato West on Friday in the first round of the 2009 Class A Minnesota state soccer tournament.
