Friday evening saw the Cloquet Lumberjacks’ 2009 regular volleyball season come to an end. The Jacks, playing very good volleyball as of late, defeated ML-WR three games to none.

Cloquet came out strong and got a quick 25-15 game one win. Any thoughts that ML-WR would go away easy were quickly squashed when the very scrappy Rebel squad pushed game two to the limit, only to see Cloquet win 29-27. Cloquet re-focused and finished out the match with a 25-16 game three win, giving them the 3-0 victory.

Katie Konietzko, recently named to the first team all-conference LSC team, led Cloquet with 9 kills, 12 digs, 2 ace serves, and 2 blocks. Second team LCS recipient Katie Schulz added 6 kills and 9 digs. Maddie Kiehn chipped in with 5 kills and 2 ace blocks. Keanna Karulak finished the evening with 10 digs to go with her 22 set assists.

Taryn Davis led the Rebels with 10 kills. Katie Youngberg and Sheenagh Caroline finished with 14 and 11 digs respectively, while Maddy Adamczak added 18 set assists.

The Jacks finish the regular season with an 11-14 record, receiving the #2 seed in Sub-Section 1 of the upcoming 7AA playoffs. They will begin the playoffs by hosting #7 seed Proctor on Wednesday.

ML-WR finishes out the 2009 campaign 7-20 on the season. The #5 seed Rebels begin the playoffs by traveling to Crosby-Ironton on Wednesday to take on the #5 seed Rangers.
