Bombers Push Past Rangers

The Bombers of Barnum would play host to the Rangers of Crosby-Ironton, on Friday the 13th. The Rangers would receive the ball first opening with their passing game, and in the first three possessions march the ball down the field for a touchdown. They would then go for the 2 point conversion but would be denied.

The Bombers would then get there first turn with the football. The Bomber’s Brandon Newman would take the kickoff and run it all the way back for the Bomber touchdown, but this play would be called back due to a block to the back during the return. With the penalty, the Bombers would be forced to start there opening drive in there own side.

The Bombers would begin to march the ball up field resulting in a Newman 5 yard touchdown run, with the 2 point conversion by Newman also good. The Rangers would then get the ball back and begin to head up the field, but this time the Bombers would be ready for them.

With 6:19 left in the first quarter the Rangers would once again go to the air, but this time Brandon Newman would read the pass and pick the ball off for the interception. The Bombers would begin there second possession with great field position, beginning on the Rangers 46 yard-line. Zach Carlson, Cody Shelgren, and Brandon Newman would all take turns pounding the ball up the field. The Bombers would get the ball to the 24 yard-line of the Rangers and be forced to make a decision, with a fourth down and 6 yards to go what would they opt to do.

The Bombers would go to the air and show that they too can pass the ball. Newman would pass the ball to Carlson who would make it all the way to the goal line setting up a Newman 1 yard touchdown run. With the Newman to Mitchell Weller 2pt. conversion pass also good, the Bombers get a 16-6 lead.

The Rangers would receive the kickoff deep in there own end but would return the ball out to the 30 yard-line. The Rangers would give the ball to David Kuhlmann and he would go 11 yards for the first down. The Rangers would then try to pound the ball through on the ground, but the Bombers defense would force them in to a punt situation. The Bombers would receive the punt deep in there own territory and bring the ball back out to their own 20 yard-line.

This time the Rangers defense would find a way to stop the Bombers, and after 3 plays would force the Bombers to punt the ball away. The Rangers would return the ball out to there 38 yard-line. The Rangers would then fumble the ball and it would be recovered by Zach Peterson of the Bombers, giving the Bombers good field position. The Bombers would push the ball up field resulting in another Newman touchdown, with the 2 point conversion being caught just out of bounds giving the Bombers a 22-6 lead.

The Rangers would receive the kick off and return it to the 35 yard line. The Ranger quarterback would try to keep the ball, but Zach Peterson would stop him for a gain of 1 yard. With a second down and long situation, the Rangers would try to push the ball past the Bomber front line. This time it would be Bomber Tory Slater that would come up with the big stop for a no gain for the Rangers.

With a third and long situation the Rangers would go to the air attack, this time to be picked off by Bombers Mitchell Weller. The Bombers would get the ball back with great field position, and pound the ball up field for another Newman touchdown and 2 point conversion, giving the Bombers a 30-6 lead going into halftime.

The third quarter would begin with the Bombers receiving the ball. The third quarter would be a battle of defenses with neither team having much luck moving the ball. The Bombers would be forced to punt the ball away. The Rangers would receive the ball, but this time would be plagued with penalties and seemed to be moving backwards forcing them to punt the ball away. Late in the third quarter the Bombers would finally find a way to move the ball up field, and with 16.2 seconds left in the quarter, Zach Carlson would punch the ball into the end zone with Cody Shelgren running the 2 point conversion in giving the Bombers a 38-6 lead.

The Rangers would receive the ball and run it back to there own 42 yard line. The Rangers would then begin a game of air attack resulting in a 4th and 1 situation, and the pass would be incomplete giving the ball to the Bombers on downs. The Bombers would take over the ball on the 48 yard line. Peterson would take the ball to the 44 yard line, but there would be a fumble and the Rangers would recover the ball. Late in the fourth quarter the Bombers would begin to substitute the younger players into the game and finally the Rangers would begin to move the ball.

With 1:56 left in the game the Rangers would pound the ball into the end-zone, but the 2 point conversion would be tipped and fall incomplete bringing the Rangers to 12-38, and that’s where the scoring would end. Both teams would substitute there younger players in to finish the game. The Bombers advance to a 3-0 record while the Rangers fall to a 1-2 record. The Bombers will head down to Hinkley-Finlayson on September 20th, while the Rangers will take on the Bombers of Braham.
