Former Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hockey player Reid Ellingson made a triumphant return to the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center on Sunday night as the starting goalie for the Northern Michigan Wildcats. The Wildcats, behind the 32 saves of Ellingson, defeated the UMD Bulldogs 3-1.

Ellingson graduated from Cloquet two years ago and spent his first year out of high school as one of three goalies for the Wildcats. Last year Ellingson played in the United States Junior Hockey League for the Green Bay Gamblers and he rejoined the Wildcats this season.

Beginning midway through his freshman season in high school, Ellingson became the Lumberjacks starter and eventually was recognized as the top goalie in the state in 2006-2007 his senior season.

Last season the Wildcats finished strong in the second half of the year and
have been optimistic that this could be a big year for them in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. At the beginning of this season the Wildcats were picked to finish fifth by the coaches of the CCHA which has 12 teams in the league including Michigan and Michigan State.

Ellingson is the son of Mike and Karen Ellingson of Scanlon
