Greyhounds Capture Spartan Relays

It was the Duluth East Greyhounds capturing first place Saturday in the 29th Annual Spartan Relays at Superior Senior High School in Superior Wisconsin.

The Greyhounds had five first place finishes out of ten events as the finished with a total of 76 points on the afternoon. Ladysmith finished second with a total of 62 points, and it was Two Harbors taking third place with 49 points overall.

Proctor-Hermantown was fourth, followed by Superior fifth place, Duluth Denfeld was sixth overall and it was Cloquet-Esko-Carlton was seventh on the afternoon.

Winners of the events included: Duluth East winning the 200 yard medley, members of the winning relay team included Kelly Punkyo, Meghan Zwak, Alissa Marlow, and Cora Knauss.

Mallory Anderson, Megan Gates, and Grace Knauss took the Greyhounds second first place finish in the 600 freestyle relay, Kayla Nyenhuis, Addeline Swor, and Meghan Zwak won the 300 medley relay, and Meghan Zwak, Erin Johnson, and Kayla Nyenhuis won their fourth first place finish in the 300 breaststroke relay.

The Greyhounds last first place finish came in the 200 butterfly relay and members of that relay team were Meghan Friske, Kelly Punkyo, Alissa Marlow, and Cora Knauss. Proctor-Hermantown had one first place finish in the 900 freestyle relay it was Alyssa Aamodt, Taylor Hanson, Kayla Collins, and Megan Mensinger on that winning relay team.

Two Harbors had two first place finishes one in the 200 freestyle relay Leann Fynboh, Mara Boulanger, Julia McDonald, and Allie Mayfield, and it was Mara Christensen placing atop the diving portion of the meet.

Ladysmith also had two first place finishes one in the 300 backstroke relay, and in the 400 freestyle relay in the ten event relay meet.
