The Fond Du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder volleyball team returned for home play Wednesday after an absence from the Lester Jack Briggs cultural center and gymnasium.

Over 28 days, the Thunder’s last 8 matches have been on the road. Even though the returning to home courts was nice, Itasca Community College spoiled the return.

After going 1-7 over that eight match stretch, head coach Mike Patenaude told Northland Sports Online that “it’s nice to be back home. We had a long stretch away and to have the fans cheering for us again was nice to have in our corner.” Even though the Thunder had a nearly full gymnasium, they fell to the Vikings in three straight games.

The Thunder, now amid their final four games of the season, fell by the scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-18. “We just couldn’t get things going on the right track,” Patenaude would say. “We make a nice run then we always seem to shoot ourselves in the foot.” The Thunder was hoping to have some success back home after a win last Saturday over Gogebic Community College in a triangular meet at Hibbing.

Kayla Deadrick led the Thunder in kills on Wednesday, “Kayla has improved so much this season…She is a leader on our team and I am glad she will be back with us next season.”

The Thunder fall to 2-11 overall on the season and will be in action on Friday and Saturday this week. On Friday the Thunder will host Central Lakes Community College at 6:30 pm and on Saturday they will host Northland Community College at noon. The final match of the season will be next Wednesday night when the Thunder host Mesabi Community College.
