The Esko-Carlton girls soccer team, in the middle of a tough three game schedule, passed their latest test by beating the visiting Denfeld Hunters in overtime on Tuesday.

For the second time in as many games, Brook Schramm came up with the big goal for the Eskomos. Schramm scored the game winning goal for Esko-Carlton in the first minute of the second overtime with an assist from Tess Mattson. On Saturday, Schramm scored a goal against Hermantown in the final minute of regulation to force overtime and help the Eskomos come away with a tie.

After playing scoreless for the first 35 minutes of the first half, Sarah Langlee opened the scoring for Denfeld, giving the Hunters a 1-0 lead at the break.

Kate Marquis tied the game for the Eskomos in the 50th minute. The deadlock would last until the 75th minute when Amanda Bergstedt’s goal put the Eskomos up 2-1. The E-C lead would be short lived however, with Emily Desmarais scoring only a minute later to tie things back up at 2-2.

Both teams played through a scoreless first overtime period, setting up Schramm’s game winning heroics in the second overtime.

Esko-Carlton will look for a season split with rival Cloquet when they host the Lumberjacks on Thursday. The Eskomos lost a thriller to the Lumberjacks earlier in the year by a score of 4-2. Look for a very tight, very competitive game from these two squads. Before the Cloquet victory, the last six games have been played to an overtime tie.
