The Cromwell Cardinals have a rich history of 9-man football in the state of Minnesota, including winning the state title back in the 2010-2011 season. The Cardinals, while young this year, would like to continue in the path of success this season as well.

While the Cardinals are coming off of a 6-5 season along with a section finals appearance last year, the Cardinals hope to be in a good position again come playoff time. “We hope that by the end of the season we improve enough to become serious competitors for the section.” Coach Gronner told NSO. “We are a very young team this year so it’s going to take a lot of work and improvement.”

Cromwell does have a few games marked on their calendars on their way to that section goal. “Our big rivalry games yearly are always Floodwood and McGregor, so we always look forward to those match ups every year.” Gronner said. Last season Cromwell fared well against their rivals, going 2-1, beating McGregor and losing to Floodwood in the regular season but getting even by knocking Floodwood out of the playoffs.

Cromwell has just 3 seniors on this years team followed by 6 juniors, 4 sophomore, and 11 freshman. While young, they still return 7 players that played a significant amount of time last season. Coach Gronner expects the sophomores and freshman to take on big roles this season on their road to success.

Cromwell kicks off the season at home against the Northland/Remer Eagles on August 30th, at 7pm.
