ESKO – The Barnum Bombers came up big to win the huge Polar League matchup before a near full-capacity
crowd Tuesday night against the hosting Eskomos.
Esko jumped out in front winning the first game 25-19 and had a firm grasp on the second game, leading 16-6. However, a timeout and defensive changes turned the night around as the Bombers downed the Eskomos in game 2 by a score of 26-24.

With the match tied at one game each, Barnum used their newly found momentum to win the third game 25-22 and capture the fourth 25-18, winning three games to one. The victory has the Bombers atop the Polar League standings. Barnum now improves to 12-0 on the season.

“It was a great win tonight,” head coach Corina Newman told Northland Sports Online. “The girls played as a team and it was a great win tonight especially for our seniors.” Senior standout Katrina Newman said “It was awesome to win this one; we haven’t beaten Esko in years.” She continued, “We played as a team tonight and it was a win we will remember.”

Newman finished the night with 22 kills for the Bombers. She also had five blocks and ten digs in the victory. Jenna Zmyslony would add eight kills and nine digs in the win Tuesday night. Jessica Newman had 34 set assists.

Esko senior Kayla Handevidt paced the Eskomos with 14 kills and four blocks.

Barnum now sits alone at the top of the Polar league standings with a 6-0 conference record and 24 points. Cromwell, Esko, Floodwood, and Carlton are all battling for second place in the conference standings. The loss, only Esko’s second of the year, drops them to 11-2 on the season.

Esko will be in action again on Thursday when they host Silver Bay. Barnum will host Floodwood on Thursday.
