CLOQUET – The first annual Cloquet High School Alumni 7-on-7 football tournament was won over the weekend by a team created by Jarred Wannebo and Charlie Martin. The Wannebo/Martin team took the championship with a 45-25 win over the Jeff Ojanen/Andy Elias Class of 2002 team.

“The game of the day was a four overtime game in the semi-finals,” said Cloquet football coach Tom Lenarz, who organized the event. “The Ojanen/Elias team of 2002 defeated the Class of 2008 led by Andrew Bergeron and Ryan Lindstrom.”

There were a total of five teams and over 50 players participating in the event, which was used as a football fund raiser and a way to bring alumni back together on the football field.

“The weather was great and everyone had a good time,” Lenarz mentioned. “Applebee’s put on a great spread afterwards and they donated a bunch of prizes that we gave away to the guys that came over. It was a great chance for former football players to catch up with friends and to connect with this year’s seniors.”

Many of the players had their first look at the newly renovated press box which is now nearly complete. The press box is now a two level structure and the exterior was topped off with the Lumberjack logo and the words ‘Home of the Lumberjacks’ scrolled under and over the logo.
