The Wrenshall Wrens football team has certainly had its ups and downs so far this season. On Friday night the Wrenshall Wrens were forced to forfeit their game to Northland Remer due to a shortage of players and inability to field a team.

The Wrens are very short on numbers to begin with, having only three seniors, three juniors, zero sophomores, and seven freshmen on this year’s squad. The roster shortened when plagued with several injuries, and the Wrens found themselves short on Friday causing them to forfeit the game.

“We just don’t have the numbers this year,” head coach Jeremy Zywicki told Northland Sports Online. “Then you add in all the injuries we have had and to be honest I don’t know if we will be able to field a team the rest of the season…We have great numbers in the junior high program, but we’re struggling on the varsity level.”

Wrenshall was awarded a victory in their first game of the season when LaPorte also had to
forfeit because of low numbers. Going into the game 1-0 last week when they faced Nevis, the young Bomber squad was crushed by a score of
42-8,
evening their season record to 1-1.

With the forfeit Friday to Northland-Remer, the Wrens are 1-2 and if they field a team next Friday they will face a very strong Floodwood team at home. The decision whether to play or not should be known by Wednesday at the latest. Northland Sports Online will continue to update the situation as information becomes available.
