Lumberjacks Get 74-68 Win Over Minneapolis Southwest

The Cloquet Lumberjacks picked up a huge road win Thursday night as the Lumberjacks knocked off Minneapolis Southwest at Southwest High School by a score of 74-68. The Lumberjacks, using their fourth different starting lineup this season had things going as the Lumberjacks big three combined for 66 of the Lumberjacks 74 points on the night.


The Lumberjacks took control right away Thursday night and it was Adam Laine who put Cloquet in front 4-3 after Akeem Smith hit a three pointer to put the Lakers in front 3-2; the Lumberjacks never trailed again as they picked up this big road victory Thursday. Cloquet went on a 15-3 run midways into the contest to build a 15-6 lead and then went on to lead at halftime by a score of 34-26 at halftime.


The Lakers made a run at Cloquet and cut the Lumberjacks lead down to two at 41-39 with 14:38 to play, but it was the Jacks who withstood the Lakers run and went on to the six point victory. The two points which the Lakers cut the Cloquet lead down to was the closest they would come in the second half.


Cloquet’s big three dominated the score books as it was Adam Laine who finished with 28 points on the night, Aaron Johnson finished with 22, and Dillon Johnson added 16 in the Lumberjacks win. Dillon Johnson also hit four 3-pointers for Cloquet, who shot 55% from the floor. Marquez Evans added 5 points and Nate Weets chipped in with 3 as Cloquet moves to 2-3 on the season.


The Lakers had four players in double figures including Akeem Smith, who scored 24. Demetrius Cady finished with 16 points and it was Tyler Porch and Cam Ross who each finished with 10 points as the Lakers fall to 1-5 on the season.


Cloquet will be off until next Thursday when they will host the Wood City Classic. The Lumberjacks will face Minneapolis Edison on Thursday at 6:15 and on Friday Cloquet will square off with St. Paul Central. Minneapolis Southwest is back in action on Friday night when they will face Minneapolis Patrick Henry at Henry High School.
