Lady Jacks Net Huge Road Basketball Win

The Cloquet Lumberjacks girls basketball team picked up a huge road win on Tuesday night as the Lumberjacks knocked off the Hermantown Hawks at Hermantown High School by a score of 45-37 in a Lake Superior Conference matchup.


The first half saw both teams battling a closely tight hard fought game as the Lumberjacks maintained a one point 23-22 lead at halftime. The Lumberjacks who were looking to win their second game in the row Tuesday night came out in the second half and outscored the Hawks 22-15 to pick up the big sectional road victory.


The Lumberjacks took advantage of some hot outside shooting from Jaiden Cofield and Krista Schmitz, who both connected on 3 three-pointers for the Lumberjacks. Jordan Hanson also had a long range bomb for Cloquet in the win Tuesday night.


The Lumberjacks were led by both Cofield and Schmitz who finished with 13 points on the night, Kenzie Rathe added 8, while Avery Bieri scored 5, Jordan Hanson had 3, Grace Sinisalo added 2, and it was Morgan Jensen who finished with 1 point for Cloquet.


The Hawks were led by Caitlin Windus, who finished with 11 points. Emily Neumann and Mariah Ruhanen both finished with 7 points, Carley Hansen added 4 points, Kessiah Mosier and Kianna Hren each finished with 3 points and it was Haley Wargin chipping in with 2 points.


The Lumberjacks who had lost three straight games have now won two in a row and improve to 3-4 overall on the season. They will close out the pre-holiday schedule with another conference and sectional matchup on Friday night when they face the Duluth Denfeld Hunters at Denfeld High School.
