Mike Randolph, Duluth East head hockey coach, got his 500th win last night against one of his teams’ most fierce rivals. The Greyhounds downed Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 5-2 at the Heritage Center in Duluth and in doing so they provided the longtime head coach with his milestone victory.

A big part of the Greyhounds win was Hogan Davidson, who finished with three goals in leading his team to the win. Davidson opened the scoring at 4:27 of the first period with assists to Alex Trapp and Brian Bunten and the first period ended with East up 1-0 as they held an 11-10 shot advantage over the Jacks.

Drew Dincau pulled CEC back to 1-1 with a shot from above the right circle at 9:14 of the second period, but Davidson answered that goal for East a little over three minutes later at 12:40 to make it 2-1. The Greyhounds went ahead 3-1 at 13:37 when Jack Forbort scored on a power play with Alex Toscano and Phil Beaulieu adding the assists and after the second period East was up 3-1.

East notched back-to-back goals at :33 seconds and 3:59 from Ryan Lundgren and Davidson to make it 5-1. CEC cut the lead to 5-2 when Westin Michaud slipped home a goal from Dincau after a nearly coast to coast effort, but that was all the closer the Jacks could get.

For the game the Jacks were outshot by the Greyhounds 28-20, but Dylan Parker finished with 18 saves on those 20 shots in backstopping East to the win. Justin Ketola finished with 23 saves for the Lumberjacks.
