South Ridge Scores 100 In Shoot-Out Win

The South Ridge Panthers exploded for 100 points on Friday as the Panthers won a shootout with Nashwauk-Keewatin at South Ridge High School. The Panthers knocked off the Spartans by a final score of 100-88.

The Spartans held a halftime lead of 50-45 Friday night, but the second half saw the Panthers erase the five point lead and go on to outscore the Spartans by a 55-38 margin as the Panthers came away with a 12 points win.

The Panthers, who lost their opening game of the season to Cook County in a low scoring affair, more than doubled their first games performance as they only scored 40 points in the six point loss to the Vikings.

Dominic Janke scored 35 points to lead all scorers Friday night; Janke also connected on 4 three-pointers and grabbed 11 rebounds in the victory. Robbie McQuade finished with 27 points and 2 three-pointers to go with 8 boards for South Ridge. Kody Karppinen added 15, while it was Colton Peterson and Bill Redding each finishing with 7 points, Zach Johnson score 5, and it was Jerome and Spencer Otis both finishing with 2 points in the South Ridge victory.

The Spartans were led by Josh Engle who finished with 29 points on the night, it was Anthony Arnesen scoring 14 points, and it was Chris Meadows and Kevin Hale who both finished with 13 points for the Spartans in the loss.

The Panthers even their season record at 1-1 overall, and they will be back in action on Monday when they host the Night Hawks of Northeast Range; and on Tuesday night when they will play at Carlton in a Section 7A match-up.

Nashwauk-Keewatin falls to 1-2 on the season and they will be back in action next Friday night when they travel to Deer River to host the Warriors in a Northern Lakes Conference match-up. The Spartans offense continues to click s they are averaging 79 points per game in this young season.
