Three Panthers Hit 20 Point Mark In Home Win

The South Ridge Panthers girls’ basketball team ended a two game losing streak on Thursday night as the Lady Panthers beat the Wrenshall Wrens 86-32 in a section match-up at South Ridge High School in Culver.


The Panthers finished with three players who had over 20 points on the night in the Panthers 54 point home win. The Panthers jumped out in front early and had an extended 53-11 halftime lead. South Ridge continued playing well in the second half as they added 33 more points in the second half compared to only 22 more for Wrenshall.


Mikayla Olesiak connected on four 3-pointers and she went on to score 28 points to lead all scorers Thursday night; her teammates Kayla Jackson added 21 points and Justine Janke finished with 20 points in the South Ridge victory.


The Panthers, who made 21 trips to the free throw line on the night, finished 12-21 from the charity stripe. Rounding out the rest of the Panthers scoring was Mallory Thibault who scored 5 points, Krystal Karppinen and Ryanna Anvid both finished with 4 points, and it was Cedar Savage who scored 2.


The Wrens were led Thursday night by Delaney Kittle, who scored 11 points; Kittle also connected on three 3-pointers for the Wrens. Cassie Wimmer finished with 8 points, Shauna Laveau scored 5 points on the night, it was Katie Kelley who chipped in with 4, and it was Taylor Dagger and Tatum Swanson each finishing with 2 points.


The Panthers even their record at 2-2 overall on the season and they are back in action again Monday night as part of a boys and girls double header in Culver when they will face Northeast Range. The Night Hawks are 3-0 on the season.


The Wrenshall Wrens fall to 0-4 overall and they will face the Marshall Hilltoppers who are 0-3 overall on the season Tuesday night at Wrenshall High School. The Wrens will host Floodwood next Thursday in a Polar League Conference matchup.
