Barnum Boys Pick Up 60-51 Road Win

The Barnum Bombers made it two consecutive wins this season as the Bombers opened Polar League Conference play with a 60-51 win over the Cardinals at Cromwell High School Monday night.


The Bombers jumped out fast Monday night and cruised to a 15 point, 37-22 lead at halftime and withstood a second half charge from the Cardinals as the Bombers picked up the big road win on Monday.


In a game which saw three pointers fly nonstop, it was Cromwell who connected on six three pointers while Barnum nailed down five long range bombs. Barnum however was more productive hitting on 50% of their three point attempts while Cromwell was 6-17, which turned out to be only 35% of three pointers that were made.


Looking also at the shooting stats, Barnum shot 56% from the floor while Cromwell was 46% from the floor. Barnum also committed 8 turnovers, whereas the Cardinals turned the ball over 18 times on the night.


Barnum was led by Zac Carlson, who finished with 19 points to lead all scorers. Danny Warpula added 19 points, Tory Slater had 9, Mitchell Weller chipped in with 5, as did Rodney Mullen and Sam Anderson in the Bombers victory.


Jared Hutar led the Cardinals with 12 points; he was followed by Brandon Fairbanks who chipped in with 10, Tyler Hakamaki added 9, while Alex Hakamaki scored 6, Josh Oliver and Austin Pfisthner each had 5, and rounding out the Cromwell scoring was Hunter Rauvola with 4.


Barnum moves to 2-0 on the season and the Bombers will be back in action again on Friday night when they travel to Pillager to take on the Pirates in a sectional matchup. Cromwell starts the season 0-1 and they will play at Wrenshall on Monday night in another Polar League contest.
