CLOQUET- Thursday night saw the Cloquet Lumberjacks even their early season record at 1-1 when the Lumberjacks knocked off the Two Harbors Agates 67-29 at Cloquet Senior High in this non-conference battle.


Coming off a 29-21 loss Tuesday night to North Branch, the Lumberjacks saw their shooting percentages improve dramatically as Cloquet shot 31 % from the floor Thursday compared to only 17% against the Vikings.


Jaiden Cofield and Avery Bieri each scored 17 points for the Lumberjacks in the 38 point win, while Kenzie Rathe added 12 for Cloquet. Cofield saw her points come off of layups from defensive steals and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line while Bieri’s points came down low in the box by taking over in the paint.


The Lumberjacks also improved their shooting from the free throw line as a team. Tuesday, Cloquet shot only 30% from the floor while Thursday night the Jacks shot 73 % from the floor, hitting 18 of 23 from the charity stripe.


Cloquet also dominated the boards on Thursday as they finished with 44 rebounds on the night; whereas the Agates grabbed only 23 rebounds. Avery Bieri led both teams in rebounds by pulling down 15 rebounds to go with her 17 points on the night.


The rest of the Lumberjack scoring Thursday night came from Kaylee McMillen with 6 points, while Kassidy Steen added 4, Jordan Hanson, Megan Warbolow, and Grace Sinisalo all had 2 points, and it was Riley Kedrowski who finished with 2 points also.


The Lumberjacks even their overall record at 1-1 and they are in action again on Tuesday night when they travel to Lindstrom to take on the Chisago Lakes Wildcats in a sectional matchup. The Lumberjacks will be back at home next Friday night when they host Ashland.


Lane Schraufnagel led the Agates with 10 points on the night as the Agates open their season with the road loss. The Agates will look to rebound again Friday night when they open their home season against the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers.
