Rebels Shutout Two Harbors To Begin Section 7AA Playoffs

WILLOW RIVER- Michael Pender scored three touchdowns and Jake Disterhaupt added two more as the Rebels rolled to the Section 7AA quarterfinal win over the Two Harbors Agates Tuesday night in Willow River.

Jake Disterhaupt scored two touchdowns in the first quarter as the Rebels jumped out quickly to a 20-0 first quarter lead. After holding the Agates on their first possession, the Rebels moved quickly down the field and scored on a 7 yard touchdown run from Disterhaupt.

The Rebels made it 10-0 two minutes later following an Agate fumble. The Rebels moved down the field quickly and scored on Disterhaupt’s second touchdown run of the game. The Rebels went ahead less than a minute later when Pender scored following a misplayed kickoff return by the Agates and the Rebels led 20-0 after one quarter.

The Rebels added two more touchdowns in the second quarter as again an Agate turnover led to Pender’s second touchdown run of the game. BJ Young scored the Rebels fifth touchdown of the half as the Rebels led at halftime 33-0.

The second half saw the Rebels score only one more touchdown; again it was Pender scoring his third touchdown of the game as the Rebels rolled to the 40-0 victory and move into the Section 7AA semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels move to 9-0 on the season and they will host Eveleth-Gilbert in the section semi-finals Saturday at Willow River. The Agates finish the season 0-9 overall and with only 3 seniors on their roster a very young Agates squad should be much more experienced and improved next season.
