The Carlton Bulldogs, who entered the Section 5 9-man playoffs as a huge underdog, saw their return to football season come to an end Tuesday night as the Floodwood Polar Bears beat the Bulldogs by a score of 42-6.

The Bulldogs played only a partial varsity schedule this season after having a varsity program for the first time in two years. The upstart Bulldogs saw any dreams of advancing in the section playoffs fall short as the Polar Bears knocked off the Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the Section 5 9-man playoffs.

The Polar Bears jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead and added four more second half touchdowns. The Polar Bears had six different players scored touchdown for Floodwood in their 36 point victory.

Willow Christensen connected with Ross Schminski and Jarred Heggedahl on two touchdown passes and Evan Suonvieri, Cody Oakes, Tanner Heggedahl, and Dylan Utecht all added the touchdown runs for Floodwood.

Carlton’s lone touchdown in the fourth quarter when it was Jake Eggert scoring on a 1 yard touchdown run as the Polar Bears advanced to the Semi-Finals on Saturday night when they will face the Cromwell Cardinals in a Section 5 Semi-Final match-up.

The Carlton Bulldogs first season back finishes with an overall record of 2-3 on the season. With a young nucleolus of players and a team commitment the future appears bright for the Carlton football program.
