Austin Farley wasted little time, very little time, in making his presence felt last Friday night in his University of Minnesota Duluth debut. On his first shift as a Bulldog — just 65 seconds into UMD’s non-conference clash with Ohio State University, the 5-9, 170-pound left winger — struck for collegiate goal No. 1 and later that evening chipped in a pair of assists in sparking the Bulldogs to a 6-2 victory. Farley also helped set up one of UMD’s two goals in the rematch (a 3-2 loss) and for that inspiring four-point performance, he was chosen the initial Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week for 2012-13.

Farley, a native of Niles, Ill., was an integral part of a Bulldog power play unit which cashed in on 35.7 percent of its chances over the weekend (5 of 14). He concluded the series at a +1 and put six total shots on goal, the second highest figure on the club.

Farley and the 13th-ranked Bulldogs will be in South Bend, Ind., this Thursday and Friday to face No. 9 University of Notre Dame.
