Kuhlman’s Late Goal Leads Team North Past Shattuck-St Marys

Cloquet’s Beau and Westin Michaud along with Karson Kuhlman of Esko have been preparing themselves this fall by playing in the Upper Midwest High School Hockey Elite League. The three have been showing the team and League some of the quality that the Lumberjacks will have on ice this winter.


Jake Zeleznikar and Neil Pionk from Hermantown are also on the team that is made up of players from Duluth Marshall, Duluth East, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, and also one player from Bemidji.


Saturday Kuhlman scored the game winning goal in a 4-3 victory over Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Faribault in the Team North’s second game of the day. The goal by Kuhlman with :38 seconds remaining in the game helped the North knock off the previous unbeaten Shattuck-St. Mary’s.


The North lost their first game of the day 6-1 to Northwest, then on Sunday the North made it two wins on the weekend as they defeated Northeast by a final score of 5-1 at New Hope Ice Arena in New Hope Minnesota.


Sunday saw Kuhlman score his team leading 7th goal of the season, while Beau Michaud scored two goals for the north to give him a total of five goals and a total of 13 points on the season. Kuhlman added one assist in the victory and is the second overall scoring leader for the North with 14 points.


The North will be back in action for the final three games of the season when the North will face off with Great Plains at noon. At 7:30 they will face team Northwest. Sunday they will finish up with team Southeast at 10 am.


This weekend’s action will be played at both of the Moorhead Youth Ice Arena’s in Moorhead Minnesota. Team North is coached by Pat Guyer, and Mitch Ryan. The North are currently in third place in the Elite League, behind teams Northeast and team Southeast, who are tied to the league lead.
