Hawks Tennis Finishes Up Much Improved Season

First round action in the girls Section 7AA North Subsection Tennis Tournament started on Monday and the Hermantown Hawks were eliminated with a 5-2 by Big Lake at Arrowhead Tennis Center in Duluth.

Hermantown’s Madelyn Miller fell at #1 singles play to Big Lakes Mady Johnson 6-1, 6-4. At #2 singles play it was Danielle Luke of Hermantown notching a 4-6, 6-4, 7-3 win over Alex Campbell. Karleight Johnson of Big Lake defeated Bailey O’Connell of Hermantown and at #4 singles Hermantown’s Stephanie Collins fell 6-3, 6-0 to Kelsi Kleven.

The Hermantown duo of Anna VanDeelen and Mariah Ruhanen took the lone doubles match for the Hawks in the #1 slot when they won 6-1, 6-0. Elizabeth Carlson and Brianna Garcia-Meyers fell at #2 doubles for Hermantown as did the Hawks #3 team of Elizabeth Heehn and Jordan Cuva.


The loss marks the end to a much improved first season under first year head coach Kelly Cooke. The Hawks finished with an overall record of 7-11.
