The sectional playoffs in girls soccer got even more muddied on Thursday night when Esko downed Cloquet 2-0 breaking the Lumberjacks 10-game unbeaten streak.

Ellie Emanuel scored in the 53rd minute on a pass from Marisa Shady and in the 60th minute it was Brooke Schramm scoring from Hillary Anderson making it 2-0 Eskomos. The Lumberjacks were never able to get a ball past the Eskomo defense or netminder DeAhna Kulas, who faced only one shot. Emanuel’s goal was a pretty one on a crossing pass from Shady, while Schramm got her head on a ball off a corner kick.

Esko and Cloquet have now each won a game on their home turf by identical 2-0 scores against each other. Cloquet is 8-4-3 on the season and tied Hermantown twice and also tied Princeton. Esko is 10-5 and split with Hermantown and lost 3-1 to Princeton. Hermantown is 10-3-2 and did not play Princeton, but they did tie Cloquet twice and split with Esko. Princeton is 11-2-2 and play mostly teams to the south of the area. In other words, this is going to be a lot of fun when the playoffs come.
