Katrina Korman has started the softball season in fine fashion by pitching her Cloquet Lumberjacks to a pair of victories over two tough opponents. After beating Superior 4-0 on Monday, Korman and her mates slipped by Duluth East 2-1 on Tuesday at Braun Park in Cloquet.

With the game tied 1-1 in the seventh, the Jacks took the win when Kayla Masessa, a freshman, reached base on a walk and then scored on a passed ball. Masessa, who ran varsity track for Cloquet last season, made the move to softball this season.

Korman did her part by keeping the normally solid bats of the Greyhounds silent as she finished with a 4-hitter, while striking out nine and she also aided her own cause by picking up two hits including a double. Alyssa Hanson also had a pair of hits, as did third baseman Shania Paulson.

The Lumberjacks are now 2-0 on the season.
