The Hermantown Hawks and Carlton Bulldogs were both coming off successful tournaments over the weekend and found themselves in a non-conference contest on Monday night in Carlton. Monday night it was the Hawks sweeping the Bulldogs at Carlton High School.


The Hawks swept the match by scores of 25-16 in the first game of the match, the Hawks won the second game 25-11, and they third game was a 25-15 victory as the Hawks pick up the huge win Monday night over a young but very athletic Carlton squad.


The Hawks who were coming off a second place finish in the Virginia 12 team tournament last Saturday continued on with their successful season thus far. Hermantown defeated Cherry, North Woods, and Nashwauk-Keewatin; losing only to Holy Angels in the Championship match by scores of 25-20 and 25-22.


The Bulldogs also had a successful weekend, winning three matches in the Hancock tournament on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated Yellow Medicine East, Ashby, and Hancock before losing to Upsala.


Monday night’s victory was the 12th win in the Hawks last 13 matches with the only blemish being the loss to Holy Angels. Hermantown was led by Emily Neumann who finished with 27 set assists, Stephanie Kallberg added 10 kills and Katie Thun also added 8 kills in the victory.


The Bulldogs were led Monday night by Macy Belich who finished with 6 kills, 3 ace serves, and 9 digs. Hannah Benson finished with 10 set assists, and it was Chelsie Tischer who finished with 7 digs and she also added 2 ace serves.


Hermantown improves to 16-2 overall on the season and they will be back in action again on Thursday when they will host the Proctor Rails in a conference match-up at home. Carlton falls to 12-5 on the season and they will be home Tuesday night as they host Floodwood.
