Thunder Pick Up 3-1 Win

The Fond du Lac Thunder women’s volleyball team picked up their second win of the season Monday night as the Thunder defeated the Iron Women of Vermillion Community College at Vermillion Community College in Ely.


The Thunder won the match by a 3-1 margin Monday with the Thunder winning the first game of the match 25-14. The Iron Women came back to tie the match at 1-1 with a 25-23 win in the second game of the match.


The Lady Thunder stepped right back winning the third game of the set 25-16 and took the match winning the fourth game of the set 25-19 to pick up the second win of the season. The Iron women are still seeking their first win of the season.


The Thunder was led by Kourtney Karppinen who finished with 18 kills, and 12 digs, Kaitlyn Psick had 30 set assists to go along with 11 digs. MaKayleigh Cahoon added 8 kills and 27 digs. Marita Yellowhammer finished with 10 kills, 10 digs, 4 blocks and she also added 3 ace serves.


The Thunder improves to 2-6 overall and to 1-5 in conference play. The Thunder will be in action again on Wednesday when they will face Northland Community College at Thief River Falls.


Vermillion falls to 0-12 overall and drops to 0-6 in conference play, The Iron women will be in action again on Wednesday night when they will host Rainy River Community College at 6:30 pm at Vermillion Community College.
