Apparently the Hermantown football team embraces foul weather. On Friday night the host Hawks overcame a pouring rain, which started in the first quarter, and handled the Virginia Blue Devils 41-0.

Zach Royer, and Hermantown, pounced on the Blue Devils early when Royer scored on a 32-yard touchdown burst. The extra point hit the upright square on but the Hawks still led 6-0. Following Royer’s score the skies opened up with rain and the Hawks opened up their offense. Kevin Folman scored back-to-back scores on a punt return of 65 yards and a run of six yards to make the score 20-0 after one quarter. A flag on the field during Folman’s punt return had the Hermantown faithful holding their breath and thinking his efforts would be for naught. It turned out to be a defensive holding call and the score stood. Folman also found Mitch Hiner in the end zone for a two-point conversion after the punt return for a score.

In the second quarter Royer rolled 45-yards for a score and Hiner added the conversion run for a 28-0 lead. The final score of the half was an Adam Olson five-yard run, but the extra point kick failed leaving the Hawks up 34-0 as they exited the wet field at halftime.

The lone score of the second half was another Royer run, this time of 18-yards, and then Parker Anderson hit the extra point kick making it 41-0 as a final score.

Behind Royer’s three scores and Folman’s pair of touchdowns the Hawks improved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the Sea Range Conference, while Virginia drops to 1-3 and 1-2.
