It was a big day for the Hermantown tennis team on Thursday when the Hawks defeated Denfeld 7-0 in shutout fashion.

The day started bright for the Hawks who took the #1 singles match when Madelyn Miller dropped Olivia Kniziger 6-3, 6-2. From there things just continued to roll for the Hermantown girls who got a 7-5, 6-3 win at #2 singles by Danielle Luke over Madria Lehto. At #3 singles it was Bailey O’Connell dropping Layla McDonald 6-0, 6-0 and at #4 singles it was Stephanie Collins winning by default.

The dominance continued in doubles play where the Hawks #1 duo of Anna VanDeelen and Mariah Ruhanen beat Mya Peterson and Cassie Bolen 6-1, 6-3. At #2 it was the Hawks team of Elizabeth Carlson and Brianna Garcia-Meyers downing Ellie Rabold and Jenny Carlenberg 6-4, 2-6 and 7-5.

Finally at #3 doubles it was Hermantown’s Elizabeth Heehn and Jordan Cuva taking a win over Ashley Hack and Madria Lehto 6-1, 2-0 when Denfeld had to withdraw due to an injury.

After starting the season 0-5, the Hawks appear to be hitting their stride under first year head coach Kelly Cooke and have now won four of their last six games for an overall record of 4-7. They will travel to Ashland on Monday for a re-match with the Oredockers, a team they lost a darkness shortened match to by a 4-2 margin earlier in the month.
