CLOQUET- It was three huge plays in the first quarter that propelled the Yellowjackets to a big 1st quarter lead and a 32-0 victory over Fond du Lac in a MCAC football conference Saturday at Bromberg Field in Cloquet.

The Yellowjackets had three big plays all of which were over 40 yards Saturday as they improved to 3-0 on the season. The state’s top ranked teamed opened the scoring when Sam Alakia scored on a 47 yards run to open a 7-0 lead midway through the 1st quarter.

Less than two minutes later it was Rochester quarterback Earl Young connecting with Josh Zitzmann on a 45 yard touchdown pass to give the Yellowjackets a 14-0 lead. Four minutes later when Young connected with Evan Bungum, it was 20-0 after one quarter.

The Yellowjackets added a field goal before halftime and it was a 23-0 lead at the break. Rochester added their fourth touchdown of the game when Thunder quarterback Cody Anderson was hit in the end zone and the fumble resulted in a touchdown for the Yellowjackets and a 29-0 lead after three quarters.

Rochester added one more field goal in the fourth quarter as they went on to the shutout victory. The Yellowjackets defense held the Thunder to only 108 yards of total offense on the day; including holding the Thunder to only five complete passes on the afternoon.

The Thunder fall to 1-2 on the season and they will face Itasca Community College Thursday night in Grand Rapids. Rochester, the nation’s 16th ranked team improves to 3-0 on the season and they will face Central Lakes Community College next Saturday in Brainerd.
