The Hammer still belongs to Hermantown. Each year the Hawks and Proctor Rails play for the right to hoist the traveling Hammer trophy and on Friday night the Hawks picked up a 21-0 Sea Range Conference victory over Proctor in Hermantown.

Senior quarterback, Kevin Folman helped lead the Hawks with 76 yards rushing and a 6-for-9 passing performance good for 90 yards in the air, and to top it off, Folman added a pair of interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.

Folman’s first interception helped to set up their first score of the game when Mitch Hiner scampered in from the six-yard line for a 7-0 lead after the extra point kick by Parker Anderson. The score took place early in the first quarter and would stay that way through halftime.

The Hawks finally added another score when Adam Olson crashed in from the three-yard line and Anderson tacked on the extra point kick for a 14-0 lead.

Hermantown’s final score of the game took place with 8:04 remaining in regulation when Folman bolted in from the 20-yard line and Anderson added the kick for a 21-0 win.

While Hermantown was tightening up their play following an opening loss to Detroit Lakes last week, the Rails were shooting themselves in the proverbial foot with four interceptions and a fumble contributing to five total turnovers in the game.

This is the first time in three years the hammer has stayed with the home team. Two years ago the Rails took possession of the hammer on Hermantown’s field with a 7-0 shutout. Last season the Hawks returned the favor and celebrated on the Rails field with a 28-14 win.

Both teams will head north on Friday with Hermantown traveling to Greenway-Nashwauk-Keewatin and Proctor heading up to International Falls.
