The Lady Wrens of Wrenshall opened their 2012 volleyball season on Tuesday with a loss to Mountain Iron-Buhl in three straight games. The Rangers won 25-15, 25-15, and 25-16 at Wrenshall High School on Thursday.

The Wrens, who have struggled over the last few seasons, find themselves with a new coach and a new sense of willingness to improve as a team. Andrea Ruth is the new head coach of the Wrens. Ruth comes from Cromwell schools where she taught last year and was also the Cardinals head softball coach.

The Wrens were winless a season ago and have won only five games over the last five years but are hoping to improve on that this season. The Wrens have lost 19 straight matches dating back to October of 2010 when they beat a then combined AlBrook/Cotton school.

Chloe Swanson led the Wrens Tuesday night with 8 set assists and 2 ace serves. Tatum Swanson added 6 kills, along with 2 ace serves, and Delaney Kittle finished with 4 digs for Wrenshall in the loss.

The Wrenshall Wrens start the season 0-1, and they will look to rebound when they travel to Duluth on Thursday to take on the Lions of Lakeview Christian Academy. The Rangers even their record at 1-1 overall and they will host Mesabi East on Thursday.
