Year-in and year-out the Hibbing tennis team is one of the top girls tennis teams in the area. On Tuesday the Blue Jackets handled Cloquet-Esko-Carlton by a 7-0 margin in an early season match proving once again they are a tennis force in northern Minnesota.

The Blue Jackets handled all four singles matches which started at #1 when Emily Milani downed CEC’s Reilly Kedrowski 6-2, 6-3. At #2 singles it was Hibbing’s Mikayla Krmpotich defeating CEC’s Breanne Baker 6-1, 6-0.

Tina Matetcih of Hibbing took a 6-0, 6-1 win over CEC’s Rachel Collier and at #4 it was another win for Hibbing as Nicole Blagoue ousted CEC’s Lora Chalich 6-0, 6-0.

The closest CEC came to a win was in doubles play. At #3 doubles Rosalie Lundquist and Courtney Ketola dropped a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision to Rachel Smilanich and Maddy Pusteri.

The Jacks also had a great shot in the #2 doubles slot when Abby Wangen and Katelyn Litke fell 6-4, 7-6, 7-5. Finally the CEC #1 doubles team of Alyssa Acheson and Katrina Smith fell 6-1, 6-1 to Miranda Morris and Janelle Shen.

The Jacks are now off until after the Labor Day break when they travel to Hermantown to take on the Hawks on Sept 4.
