Hawks Tennis Starts Season Against East and Marshall

The Hermantown girls tennis team found out how much work they need to do in order to compete against the top area teams when they dropped a 7-0 decision to Duluth East on Wednesday and a 6-1 loss to Duluth Marshall also on Wednesday at Longview Tennis Courts in Duluth.


Against Duluth East, freshman Jordan Cuva gave the Hawks their best chance at a win when she lost at #4 singles to Daria Deibele 6-4, 6-1. The Hawks also lost their other three singles matches including a loss at #1 by Madelyn Miller 6-0, 6-1 to Caroline Skinner. Ann Heyer, of DE took a win over Bailey O’Connell 6-0, 6-0 at #2 singles and at #3 singles it was the Hawks Stephanie Collins losing to Josie Humphreys 6-3. 6-0.


At #1 doubles it was Grace Heyer / Anna Grace Norr, of DE over Anna VanDeelan / Elizabeth Carlson 6-1, 1-0 after the Hawks duo had to withdraw due to injury. #2 doubles saw the East team of Hanna Koch / Cira Lutzka,take a victory over Brianna Meyers-Garcia / Elizabeth Heehn 6-0, 6-1. And at #3 doubles the Greyhound duo of Maeve Maron / Georgia Jacabson, defeat Rebecca Henningson/ Madeline Bremel, 6-0, 6-0.


Against Duluth Marshall the lone Hawks victory came at #3 singles when Bailey O’Connell, took a victory over Maddie Auvinen 6-2, 8-6, 10-7. The Hawks lost their three remaining singles matches to the Hilltoppers.


In doubles play the Hawks #1 team of Anna VanDeelen and Stephanie Collins dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Clara Espe and Mary Baumgartner. At #2 doubles the Hawks duo of Brianna Meyers-Garcia and Elizabeth Heehn fell 6-1, 6-0 to Tiffany Wong and Azalea Ginete. Finally at #3 doubles the Hawks team of Rebecca Henningson and Madeline Bremel dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision to the Hilltoppers team of Hannah Auvinen and Natasha Khwaja.
