In all, 12 games were played at the Lake Superior Conference volleyball jamboree held at Duluth Denfeld High School on Tuesday night. The Cloquet Lumberjacks played in three of those games and served notice that they may be a team headed for a strong year.

Cloquet opened with an impressive 28-23 win over Ashland and then squeaked by both Hermantown and Superior. Against Hermantown, the Jacks slipped out a 27-26 win and the Lumberjacks came away with a 28-26 victory against the Spartans.

Hermantown edged Superior 31-26 and Ashland 33-25, while Denfeld notched three victories, picking up wins over Duluth Central, Proctor and Duluth Marshall.

Cloquet will open their regular season schedule at home on Friday night against Grand Rapids. The Thunderhawks are a perennial power on the Iron Range and this year should be no exception.
