After a 5-5 conference season a year ago, the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebel girls volleyball team is looking to turn the tables this season to a stronger record. The Rebels will be led by first-year coach Mike Edmonds, who has applied his trade in a number of locations in the past.

“I learned a great deal about volleyball and coaching by being a volunteer student assistant under Russ Rose [women’s] and Mark Pavlic [men’s] coaches at Pennsylvania State University,” mentioned Edmonds. “I was an assistant coach at St. Mary’s in Winona and I coached several JO [Junior Olympic] teams in Minnesota and New Mexico.”

Last year, the Rebels went 9-18-3 overall and struggled to finish games at the net. This year, the Rebels hope that changes with the strong leadership of left side hitters Katie Youngberg and Sheenagh Caroline as well as middle hitter Taryn Davis.

“I am really enjoying coaching the girls,” said Edmonds on Monday. “The girls are excited and enthusiastic about learning and working hard.”
