The Barnum Bombers have moved their success from the hard court to the softball diamond as they look to improve on their section runner-up finish last season. Head Coach Randy Myhre is looking for consistent and solid team play this season.

The Bombers are a young team but they do have a lot of experience returning this season. “Our team returns seniors Alyssa Shanda, Brianna Mattson, and Jana Lambert

“Head Coach Myhre stated. “Add in Junior Katrina Newman, and sophomore’s Jessica Newman, Emily Thomsen, and Jenna Shanda plus freshman Katie Myhre, Karianna Duesler, Claire Rodgers and Allanie Hanek-Siltanen we should be very competitive.”

“Our team returns several players from a team that won the Polar League Conference Title in 2008,” Myhre said, “we finished runners-up in the Section 5A Tournament.” “However, we graduated a couple of key players playing key positions on last year’s team.” Coach Myhre also stated.

The Bombers finished 18-6 overall last season and were seeded number one in the east sub section of the Section 5 Tournament. Four playoff victories last spring over Cromwell, Ogilvie, East Central, and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa had Barnum poised for a Section Championship, but Maple Lake came from the consolation bracket to defeat Barnum twice and advance to the State Tournament last June in Mankato.

Barnum looks to start on their quest for the state tournament on Monday April 13th as they take on AlBrook at Braun Park in a non- conference match-up.
