The Proctor Rails girls softball team saw their hopes of a trip to the state girls softball tournament end on Tuesday after they lost their second game of the day, this time to the Hibbing Bluejackets by a score of 21-8 and were eliminated from the 7AA playoffs.

The Rails lost their first game in the double elimination tournament to Cloquet but bounced back with an 8-3 victory over the Virginia Blue Devils at Braun Park in Cloquet. The Rails Jen Asanovich was 3-4 and hit her 6th home run of the season as the Rails defeated Virginia.

The Rails scored two runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as they picked up their 13th win of the season. Melinda Nelson and Karyn Horvath each added two hits for Proctor as Steph Torgeson picked up the win for Proctor.

With the victory, the Rails faced the Hibbing Bluejackets who lost to Cloquet in an elimination game in the 7AA double elimination tournament. The Bluejackets scored runs in six of the seven innings against Proctor as they pick up the 13 run win over the Rails.

Amanda Miller and Kristy Rudberg each had three hits in the contest for Hibbing as they will face off again on Thursday against the Lumberjacks. Hibbing pounded out 25 hits in the win over Proctor and Miranda Garrett scored four runs for Hibbing.

Briana Mehling was 4-4 for Proctor and she scored two runs in the loss. Melinda Nelson added three hits including a triple; and Karley Krueger also connected on three hits Tuesday in the loss including two doubles for the Rails.

The Proctor Rails finish the season with a 13-12 record overall and 3-2 in the playoffs. The 13 victories were the most wins for Proctor since 2006, the year the Rails won the Section 7Aa title and advanced to the state tournament. It was also the last season the Rails had finished with double digits in victories.
