Steph Torgeson lifted the Proctor Rails to an upset win over #2 seeded Two Harbors in the Section 7AA girls softball tournament in Cohasset on Friday afternoon. Torgeson threw a no-hitter, and walked just one player, in leading her team to a 9-0 romp over the Agates.

The Rails got all the runs Torgeson would need when they scored a single tally in the third inning. Proctor also tacked on two runs in the fourth, a single run in the fifth and then the Rails salted the game away with five more runs in the sixth inning.

Amazingly the Rails also manhandled Madison Olson of Two Harbors, who is one of the strongest pitchers in the region while Torgeson was not allowing a hit and nearly pitched a perfect game. (She allowed one walk). Olson gave up 19 hits to the pesky Rails including three hits to Melinda Nelson that included a doubles. Reilly Fawcett also had a big day at the plate for the Rails with three hits, Briana Mehling and Annikka Steel both belted out two hits for the Rails.

The Rails will now move on to the double-elimination end of the tournament by facing Cloquet, who defeated Hermantown and dethroned the defending section champs 2-1 on Friday also in Cohasset. The two teams will meet in Cloquet at Braun Park on Tuesday at 1pm.
