Cloquet took advantage of five hits and seven walks to defeat the Hibbing Blue Jackets in boys baseball on Friday afternoon. The Jacks won 7-2 behind solid defense and tremendous pitching from Taylor Blundell.

Blundell led the Jacks on the mound by tossing a five-hitter. Most importantly for Blundell and the Jacks was the fact that Cloquet walked just one batter the entire game. On the other side of the ledger the Blue Jackets gave Cloquet seven free passes which eventually cost them enough to give up some free runs in the game.

Cloquet scored a single run in the second inning and added a single run in the fourth, two runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth inning. Meanwhile the Blue Jackets scored both of their runs in the fourth inning and that would be all they could muster against Blundell and Cloquet.

Brandon Conklin led the Cloquet offense with a pair of hits and Cole Johnson had a pair of runs batted in.

The Jacks finish up the 2012 campaign with an impressive 14-5 record under first year head coach Rick Norrgard. In doing so Cloquet earns a #1 seed in the upcoming Section 7AA playoffs and will host #8 seeded Crosby-Ironton on Wednesday at Mettner Field.
