South Ridge – Carlton Win In Section 7A Playoffs

The South Ridge Panthers opened up the Section 7A playoffs with a 10-0 victory over the Cook County Vikings at Braun Park in Cloquet Tuesday. It was the second win over the Vikings in less than a week as the Panthers improve to 14-3 with the shutout win.


The Panthers will now face the Deer River Warriors in the Section 7A quarterfinals; the Warriors narrowly defeated Northwoods by a score of 8-7. The Panthers defeated the Warriors earlier this season by a score of 13-7.


Little Fork Big Falls, a 10-7 winner over Chisholm on Tuesday will take on Carlton on Thursday. The Bulldogs defeated Floodwood 10-9 in eight innings. The Vikings enter the game against Carlton as winners of 16 straight games.


The defending section champion Cherry Tigers opened section play Tuesday with a 10-0 victory over the McGregor Mercuries. The Tigers will face the Ely Timberwolves, who defeated Nashwauk- Keewatin by a score of 20-9.


The Silver Bay Mariners opened up sectional play with a 16-2 win over Hill City and will face Mesabi East, who defeated Mountain Iron-Buhl Tuesday afternoon. Silver Bay defeated the Giants in their opening game of the season.


The quarterfinals will be played on Thursday at Braun Park in Cloquet, the winners will advance to the semi-finals where the four teams remaining will play in a double elimination tournament beginning next Tuesday in Cohasset.
