ML-WR Boys and Girls Win Conference Golf Titles

The Moose Lake-Willow River boys and girls golf teams both captured conference titles this week at Fiddlestix Golf Course in Isle Minnesota. The Rebels girls upended the 2011 Great River Conference Champion Pine City Dragons while the boys won their second consecutive title in the Great River Conference.

The girls team was tied entering the final conference meet at Fiddlestix Golf Course with both Braham and Pine City as they entered their last eight team conference meet. The Rebels bested both teams, as the Rebels shot a team total of 405, while Braham had a 422, and it was Pine City shooting a 436.

All-Conference honors were given to four lady Rebels; both Samantha Schaumburg and Alexis Babcock shot a 96, while Lindsey Loehlein finished with a 106, and it was Kayla Larson finishing with a 109 for the Rebels.

On the boys side of the conference meet it was the Mille Lacs Raiders who tied the Rebels for the conference title as they shot a 326 on their home course in the conference meet. The Rebels however had a better record in dual meets this season thus creating the tie for the section title.

Capturing All Conference honors were Gabe Douglas who shot an 80, Nathaniel Koeck finished with an 83 in the conference meet. Stephen Gassert was also named all conference team for the 2012 golf season.

The Rebels will play in Virginia on Friday and then prepare for the section meet on May 24th and again on May 30th at Giants Ridge Golf Course in Biwabik.
