Jacks Move Forward In Boys Tennis Sub-Sections

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton opened sub-section tennis action with a 5-2 victory over Denfeld in Cloquet on Monday afternoon.

The Lumberjacks won three singles matches, but it wasn’t easy as 3-of-4 singles matches went to three sets. Sean Kedrowski of CEC took the #1 singles match over Cory Bolen 5-7, 7-5, 11-9 in a thrilling match. At #2 singles it was Denfeld’s Kyle Stupca beating CEC’s John Scheuer 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Tanner Webster of CEC took the #3 singles match by virtue of a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 win over Brenden Johnson and at #4 singles it was CEC’s Christian Pritchett beating Joey Erickson 6-0, 6-0.

Troy Andrews and Mike Stukel of Denfeld defeated Ryan Willgohs and Robbie Sobczak of CEC at #1 doubles play 3-6, 7-5, 6-0. However the Jacks fought back and won at both #2 and #3 doubles play. At #2 it was Joey Gotchnik and Luke Heine defeating Bryan Mlodzyniec and Tony Petrich 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) and 7-5. At #3 doubles play it was Nick Tomhave and Ben Tomhave beating Greg Bachinske and Alex Beaulier 6-4, 6-3.


The Jacks will advance to the sub-section semi-finals against #1 seeded Hibbing at Hibbing on Tuesday at 4:00pm.
