Hawks Win First Round Tennis Match Against Eveleth-Gilbert

The Hermantown Hawks set themselves up for a big tennis win in the first round of team playoffs on Thursday by winning three of four singles matches which helped them down the Golden Bears of Eveleth-Gilbert 5-2.

Guiga Ardito kicked things off at #1 singles for Hermantown by beating Colten Harris 6-0, 6-0. Ardito’s win was followed by another victory at #2 singles by Jeremy Amys who beat Matt Skubic 4-6, 6-0 and 6-1. EG bounced back at #3 singles when Nick Robillard downed Nakul Aggarwal 6-0, 6-1, but the Hawks wrapped up the singles side of the ledger with a win when Joel Gustafson downed Derek Boese 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.

Cody Neubarth and Jasin Hammer pulled out a big win at #1 doubles when they defeated Travis Kedrowski and Miles Everson. EG notched a win at #2 doubles when Charley Kennedy and Alec Richter downed Brody Dammer and Brett Sterk 6-2, 6-2. Hermantown finalized the win with a victory at #3 doubles by Travis Peterson and Gus Peterson who defeated Evan Brinkman and Chad Heitala 6-1, 6-2.


The #3 seeded Hawks, who finished a very successful regular season at 10-5 advance to the second round and will face #2 Virginia at 9:00am on Saturday in Hibbing.
