Esko’s Early Lead Ends In a15-3 Victory

MOOSE LAKE- The Eskomos started out fast on Tuesday and jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and never looked back as they went on to the 15-3 six inning victory over the Rebels in Moose Lake on Tuesday afternoon.


The Eskomos scored five runs in the top of the first inning; they were aided by three walks, two batters hit by pitches and an error by the Rebels. Esko had two hits in the inning including a two run double from Andy Hendricks and a two run single by Nate Linder. A bases loaded walk to John Carr added the fifth run in the inning.


Esko added three runs in the second inning as Esko had four hits including an RBI double from Hendricks and triples, the first of which by Max Reinertsen, John Carr also added an RBI triple. Esko added one more run in the fourth inning when Holte doubled and came across on Hendricks third hit of the game, an RBI single.


The Eskomos added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it 11-0 Tyler Miller and Jarred Mattson scored the two Esko runs in the fifth inning. Heading into the bottom of the fifth Esko’s Jared Mattson had dominated the Rebel batters and was perfect entering the bottom of the fifth inning. The Rebels however would end the thoughts of a perfect game as Brad Fossum singled to end that hope.


The Rebels Jake Christopherson followed Fossum with a single and an error of a ground ball hit by Teddy Ryan allowed the Rebels first run of the game to score. Tyler Cisar singled with two out in the fifth to drive in two more runs to cut the Eskomos lead to 11-3 after five innings.


The Eskomos pounded out five more hits in the top of the fifth inning and added four more runs to make it a 15-3 lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning. The Rebels had one more threat in the bottom of the sixth inning when they had bases loaded, but the Rebels failed to bring anyone one home as they fall to the Eskomos in six innings.


Jared Mattson was the winning pitcher Tuesday; he went six innings, allowed only five hits, he struck out five batters and walked none. He allowed only one earned run. Spencer Clough took the loss for the Rebels as he only lasted two innings in the Rebels loss.


The Eskomos improve to 8-6 overall on the season and they are back in action again on Friday when they will face Deer River in a non-conference contest at Esko. Esko will finish up next week with four games to close out the regular season.


The Rebels fall to 6-7 overall and they are off until next Tuesday when they will host Barnum at home in a conference match-up. The will play at McGregor on Wednesday, and finish the regular season next Thursday at Mora.
