CLOQUET- The South Ridge Panthers took an early lead Monday afternoon at Braun Park in Cloquet only to see the lead disappear and force the Panthers to come from behind to pick up the non-conference win Monday in Cloquet.

The Panthers struck first on Monday when they scored one run in the bottom of the first inning when Alyssa Johnson, who had started the inning with a single, scored on a double off the bat of Kourtney Karppinen to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead after one inning.

The score stayed that way until the top of the fifth inning when Megan Bodin and Myranda Papesh both scored for the Bulldogs. Bodin walked and then scored on an infield single from Brooke Camps; and Papesh scored on a bases loaded walk to Megan Nelson.

Bodin scored her second run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. Bodin singled, moved to second on a walk to Papesh and scored on a double from Brooke Camps. That gave the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead after 5 ½ innings.

South Ridge answered right back in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Panthers scored two runs to tie the game at 3-3. Johnson and Karppinen had back to back singles in the bottom of the sixth inning and, along with a Carlton error allowed the Panthers to score two runs and tie the game.

Mikayla Olesiak scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when she doubled with one out to center field, then scored when Mallory Thibault singled and a throwing error allowed the winning run to come across and give the Panthers the 4-3 win.

The Bulldogs nine game winning streak comes to an end on Monday as Carlton falls to 11-3 overall on the season. Carlton will be in action again on Tuesday when they will host Ely at Chub Lake and then close out the regular season with a game at Esko on Wednesday.

The Panthers improve to 10-2 on the season; they will be in action on Tuesday when they will host Cook County and again on Thursday the Panther host Northwoods at Braun Park in Cloquet as they get ready for section play next week.
