The Cloquet girls softball team got an up-close look at Hermantown star pitcher Katie Thun on Thursday afternoon at Braun Park. Thun hurled a one-hitter and smacked out three hits in leading the #1 ranked Hawks to a 6-0 victory over the Jacks.

Thun’s lone hit was to Cloquet senior third baseman Shania Paulson in the fifth inning. She also struck out 12 for the Hawks, who are now 9-0 on the season and ranked #1 in Class AA in the state of Minnesota.

Beyond the three hits of Thun, the Hawks also got nifty games at the plate from Haley Wargin who had a pair of hits and Arianna Hess who also had two hits.

The last time Hermantown lost in the regular season was last season when Cloquet defeated the Hawks in Hermantown. Eventually it was the Hawks who defeated Cloquet to win the Section championship game last season.

The Hawks will be back in action on Friday and Saturday when they travel to Apple Valley to compete in the Eastview Tournament. Cloquet will be off until Monday when they host Virginia at Braun Park in Cloquet.
