Cloquet State Basketball Reunion Held July 10-12

A reunion of former star athletes from Cloquet was held during the recent Cloquet Invitational golf tournament. Players who starred on the Cloquet boy’s basketball teams from 1958, 1962 and 1963 reunited at the Cloquet Country Club and other points of interest the weekend of July 10th-12th.

The three teams represented at the reunion were the first teams to make it to the state tournament in school history and the ’63 team finished as state champion runners-up in a one-point loss to Marshall.

Among the festivities was a get together held under a tent at the club, which featured a CD of the championship game of 1963. The former players also signed autographs as many fans showed up for conversation and to relive the teams’ experiences.

The 1958 team was led by Cloquet’s first All-State performer Dick Millen. Millen attended the event along with numerous stars off all three teams.

On Saturday night the group attended a steak fry at the Jack Lounge located in downtown Cloquet where they were presented with t-shirts commemorating the event.
