The Proctor Rails rebounded Monday afternoon as the Rails, who were coming off a weekend tournament in Pine City where they went 1-2, responded very well and defeated the Greenway Raiders by a score of 11-3 to pick up the home win.

The Raiders jumped out fast Monday and scored three runs in the top of the first inning as the Raiders scored three runs on four hits to jump out the early 3-0 lead. Kelcie Ingle, Emily Kessler, and Taylor Ohrn all singled and scored runs in the first for Greenway.

“This team has a lot of confidence and we were not worried when we fell behind early,” Head Coach Robin Anderson told Northland Sports Online, “They had a nice first inning, but we never give up and the girls responded by scoring one run in the first and then adding seven more in the second inning.”

Karley Kruger hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead to 3-1 after one inning. The Rails added seven more runs in the second inning and took control of the game with an 8-3 lead after two innings of play.

The second inning saw the Rails come away with eight hits in the inning. The big blows offensively came from Reilly Fawcett, who had a double and two RBI’s in the inning. Beth Spicer also had a two run double in the second as the Rails never looked back with the large lead.

The Rails added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to make it an eight run game at 11-3. Melinda Nelson singled to start the inning and later scored, as did Brianna Mehling, who tripled and scored a run; and it was Kruger adding the third run of the inning.

Steph Torgeson pitched the complete game on Monday; she finished allowing seven hits while striking out three Raider batters. Torgeson helped her own cause from the plate by going 2-4 on the afternoon.

Brianna Mehling was 3-4 on the day with two RBI’s, Melinda Nelson was 2-4 with two runs scored, Karley Kruger scored three runs and a RBI, Riley Fawcett was 2-4, and Jen Asanovich was also 2-4 on the afternoon. The Rails pounded out 16 hits on the day.

The Rails improve to 7-5 overall on the season and they will be back in action again Tuesday afternoon when they take on the Spartans of Superior at Superior High School. The Raiders fall to 7-4 on the season and they face the Esko Eskomos on Wednesday in a make-up game at Esko.
