The Fond du Lac Thunder mens baseball team picked up their third win of their inaugural season last weekend when they won the first game of a double header at Rainy River in International Falls. The Thunder beat Rainy River 11-6 in the first game of the double header and then fell 14-1 in game two.

Thunder pitcher Richard Jubie tossed 6 2/3 innings to get the pitching victory. Jubie also picked up 4 strikeouts. Leading the hitting barrage were: Cody Anderson, 4-for-4, 2 RBIs, Bryce Karppinen, 2-for-4, 1 home run, 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored, Joe Broneak, 2-for-4, Carlos Holcey, 2-for-4 and Jubie, 3 RBIs, and 1 double.

At stake on the weekend was the final playoff spot for the Northern Division playoffs in the MCAC. Because the teams split the double header they are still tied for the final playoff position. A tie-breaker game will now be played on Tuesday in Grand Rapids at a neutral site.

The winner will move on to the Divisional Playoff round to play top-seeded Itasca Community College in a best-of-three game series next weekend. In their inaugural season, the Thunder end the regular season with a 3-17 record, with all three wins in MCAC Northern Division games.
